Hi Im Chris Borkowski, you know me as “Condo” Chris and I’m a Broker with Remax Hallmark right here in the City of Toronto.
Today I’m back with another hot tip for Toronto renters and this ones about pets.
Lets say you’re renting a house with a nice backyard, and you’d like to get a dog.
But you’ve signed a lease that states “No pets”.
Can your landlord evict you for getting a pet?
The answer is “No” A landlord can not evict you for getting a pet even if you’ve signed a lease that says”no pets”
Now there are two exceptions to this rule;
- First, If you live in a condo and the condo by-laws sate “no pets”.
- The second is if your landlord can prove that your pet is bothering a neighbour or another tenant. Either their health or the enjoyment of their unit. In either case these are grounds for eviction.
Simply signing a lease that states “no pets” not grounds for eviction of you decide you would like one.
I hope you enjoyed todays tip for renters. If you would like to see more – check out my website. Condochris.ca
